Alvin's age is unknown in the CGI/live-action films, though the 2007 movie novel states that Simon is the oldest. Over the years, he had crushes (or interests) on many human female characters. Some examples include Miss Fancy from the 60s episode Fancy, Sandy the Babysitter and his math teacher Miss Stone from the 80s series episode Romancing Miss Stone, Dena from Funny, We Shrunk the Adults, Becca in The Squeakquel, and Principal Meadows from the ALVINNN!!! series. Tom Cruise, Patton Oswalt, Brian Posehn, Steve Buscemi, Harry Shearer, James Caan, Paul Giamatti, Jeffrey Tambor, and Alec Baldwin were all considered for the role of Ian Hawke before David Cross was cast.

They both are very athletic and energetic. In games and tournaments, they have each other's support.
