Since players place only one tile and have the option to place one meeple on it, turns proceed quickly even if it is a game full of options and possibilities. Included with the expansion are several city tiles featuring one of the expansion’s three different commodities.

Every expansion has its own dedicated pictograph, allowing you to insert and extract expansions as you see fit. If you’re stuck with the Witch, do you pass it on to someone else or do you offset it by gaining the Mage instead?Pick a tile and place it adjacent to another tile, while trying to create closed systems (a completed city, a completed road, a monastery surrounded by eight other tiles, or your farmers dominating a land). Carcassonne is a tile-laying game where players collectively construct the area around the medieval French city of Carcassonne while competing to place followers on various features and score the most points. Whenever that other player is the active player and does something that causes their scoring pawn to move, the player who has a robber next to the active player’s scoring pawn will earn half as many points as the player who is scoring, moving their own scoring pawn and removing their robber from the board. Every time one of the tiles with the robber symbol comes up, first the current player and then everybody else place their robbers on the scoreboard where at least another scoring meeple can be found.

The effects of this expansion aren’t as noticeable in a three or more player game, but they are particularly potent at the two player count. There are cases in which you won't mind a player also gaining points from a structure you started and worked on, and others where you will.
